A valid South African ID number must:
- Be exactly 13 digits long
- Have a valid date of birth in the first 6 digits
- Have a valid gender sequence number (0000-9999)
- Have a valid citizenship digit (0 or 1)
- Have a matching checksum digit
The SA passport number is a 9 digit number, which sometimes starts with an Alpha character.
